Welcome to our web site!
“Café Róza” as a cafeteria, is only one step in the longer walk which is the wider Project of which it is a part. Having opened in October 2004, the cafeteria itself has grown at the sight, and with the help, of our clients, our friends that have forgiven us the natural mistakes and lacks inherent to the beginning of any project.
The evolution of this project has followed a strategy drawn in order to achieve its objectives. The cafeteria itself, was conceived in order to create a pleasant space where our guests can enjoy a relaxed and pleasurable time (read “Cafereteria” section of this web site”). Good music and homemade food have been from the beginning the flag of our concept.
In June 2005 the wines were introduced: Portuguese wines. The Polish interest in wines is relatively recent, and among the wines available in the market, the Portuguese wines are found in little number. “Café Róza” is not the only place in Warsaw where one can enjoy Portuguese wines, although the amount of those places in not in any way proportional to the exquisite quality of the Portuguese wines. Nevertheless, “Café Róza” is without doubt the only place in Warsaw , and in the whole of Poland , where Portuguese wines were introduced so their characteristics could be known, their quality, tradition, history, and the importance they have had worldwide. So the selection made did not have as standard the wines that “a priori” would be easier to sell. The initial selection was constituted by varietals, representatives of important varieties of exclusively Portuguese grapes. This selection intended to attract the attention to grape varieties which are completely unknown in Poland , and to reinforce their natural potential.
Always swirling around the wines, we started organizing certain events, and gradually the wines became, along side with the music and good food, the flag of Café Róza. Among those events are dinners specially prepared to introduce a new wine, where a traditionally Portuguese meal is entirely designed in order to embed the chosen wine; evenings when traditional Portuguese deserts are cooked and served with certain generous wines; evenings where true fine quality Port wines are shared with our guests and served with Portuguese cheeses; and of course, regular wine trials, always following a theme, and always designed so the biggest range of sensations can be apprehended by our guests.
With all these events, our wine offer has grown over six times the original one, and we are proud to be able to advice our regular guests based on our knowledge of the wines we offer, and on the feedback they have given us.
Another step on the walk of this project is being given now with the publication of this web page. In here our readers can learn some more about the history of the wines in Portugal, about the regions where the wines come from, understand or consolidate the meanings of certain expressions and designations, consult descriptions of every wine in the offer (descriptions carefully made by us), and read about the characteristics of each of the 39 grape varieties present in the wines of our offer. It is an unpretentious web site, not with the objective of teaching (for “no art that can be taught is worthwhile being learnt”), but with the one of breaking some wrong concepts, of showing.
