Origin
The origins of Trincadeira are difficult to trace back. There are two theories that point in different directions, while one says that Trincadeira is a Portuguese grape, the other states that its origin is Tunisia

Main characteristics
This variety is characterized by having small grapes, with a black-bluish colour. It adapts to dried soils and climates with hot summers, although it is more suited for deep and well irrigated soils.

What kind of wine does Trincadeira originates
The wines tend to have a medium alcohol volume, dark deep colour, fruity aromas with herbal notes. Their tannin structure is noble and one of great quality.

Main regions where Trincadeira is planted
Trincadeira is recommended in the following D.O.C. Regions: Douro , Dão, Redondo, Reguengos, Borba, Portalegre and Vidigueira. It is also recommended in the following IPR's: Valpaços, Chaves, Planalto Mirandês, Encosta da Nave, Cova da Beira, Alcobaça, Encostas de Aire, Alenquer, Torres Vedras, Cartaxo, Almeirim, Coruche, Chamusca, Santarém, Évora, Moura and Granja-Amareleja.
